Chickenpox is circulating in Casper.
At one time this was a common childhood disease that even caused
death, however, now it is a preventable disease. Signs of
chickenpox are rash, itching, fever and tiredness. It can lead
to severe skin infection, scars, pneumonia, brain damage, or
even death. Chickenpox can be spread from person to person
through the air, or by contact with fluid from the chickenpox
blisters. Lifetime complications of the disease can be a painful
rash called shingles which may appear years after the initial
infection.
The current recommendation from the
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is that everyone who
has never had the Chickenpox disease should have 2 doses of
Chickenpox vaccine. Old recommendations were for children to be
vaccinated only one time. Please check your records; children
with only one vaccination will still require another dose to
provide optimal protection. Protect your child from this
disease and have them vaccinated according to this
recommendation.
